The Queensland Government has recently announced amendments to the law requiring cyclists to wear bicycle helmets. This decision was announced on 23 April 2013.
In short, a cyclist will be exempt from wearing a helmet if:-
- The person is a member of a religious group;
- The person is wearing a type of headdress customarily worn by members of that group; and
- The wearing of the headdress makes it impractical for the person to wear a bicycle helmet.
This exemption applies to the users of bicycles, bicycle trailers, motorised scooters and personal mobility devices.
