speeding_fines_qld_harper_finch_lawyers.jpgIt’s happened to almost all of us. You’re driving along the road and then *flash* – you see the bright light from a police speed van on the side of the road. You realise that you’ve just been caught speeding and now it’s only a matter of time until you receive the fine in the mail.

In this handy guide, we explain what fines and demerit points you face in Queensland depending on the speed you were caught driving. This information might not help you to avoid speeding but at least it can help you prepare for the outcome if you ARE caught speeding.

Read on to find out more!

41Km/Hr Over The Speed Limit

If you are caught driving 41km/hr or more over the speed limit, the penalties are serious. They are as follows:

Note: Double demerit points apply for speeding fines of 41km/hr or more!

Note: If you hold ANY licence (including an Open driver’s licence), a speeding fine for driving 41km/hr or more over the speed limit will result in the accumulation of too many demerit points, meaning that you will face a possible licence suspension.

Note: If you commit a speeding offence for driving 41km/hr or more over the speed limit, you will also face a mandatory six-month licence suspension from the Department of Transport and Main Roards, irrespective of the type of licence you hold.

Will I Lose My Licence For Speeding?

Yes, it is possible that you will lose your licence because of a speeding fine. You can lose your licence because of two different reasons:

  1. You have accumulated too many demerit points (the number of demerit points depends on your driver’s licence); or
  2. You committed a high-speed offence (41km/hr or more over the limit).

Can I Avoid Losing My Licence?

If you are facing the loss of your licence because of speeding fines, you might have some options. If you think that you might be at risk of losing your licence, you need to speak with an experienced speeding fine lawyer immediately to ensure that you do not lose any opportunities you might have. If you rely on your licence for your work or family life, you might end up losing more than your licence if you don’t act quickly.
